Connecticut Casinos, Slots, Poker and more

Home of Foxwoods Resort & Casino + The Mohegan Sun

The next time you face a slot machine in Connecticut casinos, you can feel a little less guilty about gambling. The reason: last month, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation contributed a whopping $16.2 million to the state of Connecticut, based on $64.8 million in slot revenues. Not to be outdone, the Mohegan tribe donated a grand total of $ 17.5 million based on $70.3 million earnings in slot machines. These two gaming giants, who used to have the highest rates in the country, each share 25% of slot machine revenues under their compacts.

Of course, these rather generous contributions from the casinos to the state of Connecticut can only be fueled by a continuous swell in the slot machine revenues in the casinos, among others. The current boom in slot machine gambling, as reported by Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun executives, will be a great kick-off for the much anticipated summer season. During the past months, The Mashantucket Pequot reported an increase in gambling revenues, winning a total of $74.5 million or 7.3 percent more than last year. On the other hand, the casino was able to keep 8.3% of the $864 million betted in their 7,312 slot machines. The equally prolific business of Mohegan Sun reported a total winning of $73.3 million, and kept 8.62 percent of the $851 million wagered in their 6,205 slot machines. This sudden boost in revenues in the casinos can be attributed to the opening of sport and entertainment establishments that helped boost gambling in their turf.

Gamers trooping to the state of Connecticut have evidently done wonders for the state’s tourism, raising tourist traffic by as much as two percent in just one year. While other tourist spots show a slow but steady decline in patronage; the casinos prove to be resilient with the customer’s demands, in gambling as well as non-gambling areas. Included in their serious efforts to keep their patrons coming back is to ensure safety and security at the casino premises at all times. Constant communication with Connecticut state police, FBI and the Department of Homeland Security is maintained and police visibility is guaranteed to ward off swindlers on site.

Other Connecticut Attractions

Before the fun at the slots, you might want to consider dropping by Connecticut’s other attractions, that don’t involve gambling and casinos, to get you in the mood for some serious slot machine action later. For the wine connoisseur in you, the Connecticut Wine Trail will showcase the most beautifully serene countryside scenery in the Northeast, while you sip on the region’s tastiest wines. You can also visit the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center and take a peek at the rich history and culture of the Mashantucket Pequot tribe. Relax and unwind at the Foxwoods Golf and Country Club. A short drive to the north will take you to the Submarine force Museum, the house of the historic USS Nautilus—the first nuclear powered submarine. About 25 minutes from Foxwoods, you can find the Water Wizz Waterpark, a great way to cool off after a day of playing. On-site hotels abound the area, but the most famous are the Foxwoods Resort Casino’s the Grand Pequot Tower and the Great Cedar Hotel, both located at the casino premises, and the Two Trees Inn, which is at the opposite side of Route 2.

Connecticut Slot Machines

It is important that you know how to “read” a slot machine in Connecticut. Though all has a handle, coin slot, and flashing lights, doesn’t mean that they are all the same. The first thing to look for is the kind of machine you are attempting to use. Surely, inserting a quarter in a dollar machine will prove to be futile, plus the chance that somebody will see you and think of you as an idiot.

There are a number of slot machines available in most casinos that you should be aware of. A MULTIPLIER has a designated amount for a certain symbol and the number of coins played multiplies it. The great thing about this machine is that you don’t get penalized for not playing maximum coins. The BOUNUS MULTIPLIER operates the same way, only it offers a bonus when you play maximum coins and then hit the jackpot. A MULTIPLE PAYLINE machine, as the name suggests, have more than one line of play. Each coin activates a line, but if you in a jackpot in an inactive line, you will not win anything. There can be up to 9 lines in one slot machine. The BUY-A-PAY machine is the rock star of all slot machines: they are the most misunderstood machines in the casino. Each coin activates a different pay-out, and you will need the maximum coins to hit a biggest jackpot. If you hit the jackpot with only one coin, you will not get anything. If you intend to play a single con only, the chances of winning in this slot machine is next to none. That is why it’s called gambling.

Lastly, the PROGRESSIVE SLOTS maintains pot money where you can only win the biggest jackpots if you play with maximum coins.

Slot Tips

Next to the money that you are taking to the casino, never forget your player’s card even when you’re not gambling. With the incentives that this card will give you, you can save on food, lodging, and shows. Some Connecticut casinos even offer cash back for your play. Reading the pay tables can also pay dividends, especially if you pick the machine that frequently returns a winner. Who knows, a very lucky man’s fortune can rub off to you when you are gambling. In the event that this happens, and you finally hit a jackpot, be sure to lock up a profit and keep a log of your total winnings. You should also realize that you are not playing for the casinos’ title of “the fastest slot machine ringer”, or you will instead gain the title “the fastest slot machine loser” faster before you can even say “slots”. Lastly, but most importantly, have fun gambling. Nothing is worse in gambling than having no fun and losing all your money in the process. Very lastly, don’t even think about bringing money you can’t afford to lose. That should be self-explanatory.

Slot Machine Etiquette

The last thing you want while enjoying a great time gambling in Connecticut with the slot machines is to pick a fight with other gamers, or worse, getting kicked out of casinos for misdemeanor. Here are some things that you should think about and keep in mind when playing.

Don’t even attempt to sit on a machine which has a coin cup or anything that indicates that there is a person playing at the machine who probably just went to the bathroom and will be back soon. You should also respect Connecticut’s casino gambling policies, such as “one machine per player during busy times” policy. If you find a card stuck on the machine, probably left behind by the player who was gambling there before you, put the card on top of the machine, so that the person who comes back for it will find it easily. Give generous tips, or any amount that you feel like giving. After all, it’s your money.
